The coefficients of linear expansion for three metals are:
Aluminium α=2.3×10−5K−1,
Brass α=1.8×10−5K−1 and
Steel α=1.2×10−5K−1.
a. (i) For each metal, calculate its superficial expansion coefficient.
b. (ii) Arrange the metals in descending order of their tendency for area expansion.
c. (iii) A square sheet of side 2.0m made of each metal is heated from 25∘C to 75∘C. Determine the increase in area for every sheet, stating your results to three significant figures.
