Problem
Context: Using the experimental setup with a suspended cylindrical can, paper marked in arbitrary units (a.u.), chronometer, syringe, and water, perform the following measurements. The arbitrary unit is the distance between two lines on the provided paper sheet.
Equipment available:
- Cylindrical tin closed at one end
- Sheet of paper marked with equidistant lines (distance unknown)
- Chronometer
- Strong inextensible thread of negligible mass
- Plastic template for proper suspension
- Tank with pure water (ρ=1.0×103kg/m3)
- Plastic syringe with unknown volume and marked divisions
- Stack of 10 metal sheets identical to can material
- Other accessories
The syringe removes one-fifth of its total volume per division, defining an "elementary volume" of water.
2.a. Using paper marked in arbitrary units, determine the volume of metallic material of the can in [a.u.]3.
2.b. Using marked paper, determine the volume of the can in [a.u.]3.
2.c. Determine the size of "elementary volume" in [a.u.]3.
2.d. Measure the period of rotational oscillation for the empty can and for the can with added elementary volumes of water. Create a table with measured data for each amount of water (measured time, number of oscillations, and period).
