Problem

Suppose VV is a Banach space with norm ∥⋅∥\|\cdot\| and that φ:V→F\varphi: V \to \mathbf{F} is a linear functional. Define another norm ∥⋅∥φ\|\cdot\|_\varphi on VV by ∥f∥φ=∥f∥+∣φ(f)∣.\|f\|_\varphi = \|f\| + |\varphi(f)|. Prove that if VV is a Banach space with the norm ∥⋅∥φ\|\cdot\|_\varphi, then φ\varphi is a continuous linear functional on VV (with the original norm).
