Problem

Let f:X→Yf : X \to Y be a map with A⊂XA \subset X and B⊂YB \subset Y. ((a)) Prove f(f−1(B))⊂Bf(f^{-1}(B)) \subset B. ((b)) Prove f(f−1(B))=Bf(f^{-1}(B)) = B if ff is onto. ((c)) Prove A⊂f−1(f(A))A \subset f^{-1}(f(A)). ((d)) Prove f−1(f(A))=Af^{-1}(f(A)) = A if ff is one-to-one. ((e)) Either prove or give a counterexample to f(A1∩A2)=f(A1)∩f(A2)f(A_1 \cap A_2) = f(A_1) \cap f(A_2) for subsets A1A_1 and A2A_2 of XX. ((f)) Prove f(A1∪A2)=f(A1)∪f(A2)f(A_1 \cup A_2) = f(A_1) \cup f(A_2) for subsets A1A_1 and A2A_2 of XX. ((g)) Either prove or give a counterexample to f−1(B1∩B2)=f−1(B1)∩f−1(B2)f^{-1}(B_1 \cap B_2) = f^{-1}(B_1) \cap f^{-1}(B_2) for subsets B1B_1 and B2B_2 of YY. ((h)) Prove f−1(B1∪B2)=f−1(B1)∪f−1(B2)f^{-1}(B_1 \cup B_2) = f^{-1}(B_1) \cup f^{-1}(B_2) for subsets B1B_1 and B2B_2 of YY.
