Problem

Suppose VV is finite-dimensional and T∈L(V)T \in \mathcal{L}(V). Suppose there exists a subspace UU of VV that is invariant under TT such that T∣UT|_U has an upper-triangular matrix with respect to some basis of UU and also T/UT/U has an upper-triangular matrix with respect to some basis of V/UV/U. Prove that TT has an upper-triangular matrix with respect to some basis of VV.
