Problem

The observed value of γ\gamma, see eqn. (8.3.6), for sodium is 4.3×10−44.3 \times 10^{-4} cal mole−1^{-1} K−2^{-2}. Evaluate the Fermi energy εF\varepsilon_F and the number density nn of the conduction electrons in the sodium metal. Compare the latter result with the number density of atoms (given that, for sodium, ρ=0.954\rho = 0.954 g cm−3^{-3} and M=23M = 23).
