Problem

Consider the case where j=1j = 1. (a) Find the matrices representing the operators J^2\hat{J}^2, J^z\hat{J}_z, J^±\hat{J}_{\pm}, J^x\hat{J}_x, and J^y\hat{J}_y. (b) Find the joint eigenstates of J^2\hat{J}^2 and J^z\hat{J}_z and verify that they form an orthonormal and complete basis. (c) Use the matrices of J^x\hat{J}_x, J^y\hat{J}_y and J^z\hat{J}_z to calculate [J^x,J^y][\hat{J}_x, \hat{J}_y], [J^y,J^z][\hat{J}_y, \hat{J}_z], and [J^z,J^x][\hat{J}_z, \hat{J}_x]. (d) Verify that J^z3=ℏ2J^z\hat{J}_z^3 = \hbar^2 \hat{J}_z and J^±3=0\hat{J}_{\pm}^3 = 0.
