Problem

Define Φ:V→V′′\Phi: V \to V'' by (Φf)(φ)=φ(f)(\Phi f)(\varphi) = \varphi(f) for f∈Vf \in V and φ∈V′\varphi \in V'. Show that ∥Φf∥=∥f∥\|\Phi f\| = \|f\| for every f∈Vf \in V. [The map Φ\Phi defined above is called the canonical isometry of VV into V′′V''.] [The double dual space of a normed vector space is defined to be the dual space of the dual space. If VV is a normed vector space, then the double dual space of VV is denoted by V′′V''; thus V′′=(V′)′V'' = (V')'. The norm on V′′V'' is defined to be the norm it receives as the dual space of V′V'.]
