Problem

Cathode ray tube A particle of mass mm and charge ee is moving along the xx-axis with speed uu when it passes between two charged parallel plates. The plates generate a uniform electric field E0jE_0 \boldsymbol{j} in the region 0≤x≤b0 \leq x \leq b and no field elsewhere. Find the angle through which the particle is deflected by its passage between the plates. [The cathode ray tube uses this arrangement to deflect the electron beam.]
