Problem

Use Newton's second law, F=dp/dt\mathbf{F} = d\mathbf{p}/dt, and the formula for relativistic momentum, Eq. (4.44), to show that the acceleration vector a=dv/dt\mathbf{a} = d\mathbf{v}/dt produced by a force F\mathbf{F} acting on a particle of mass mm is a=Fγm−vγmc2 (F⋅v),\mathbf{a} = \frac{\mathbf{F}}{\gamma m} - \frac{\mathbf{v}}{\gamma mc^2}\,(\mathbf{F} \cdot \mathbf{v}), where F⋅v\mathbf{F} \cdot \mathbf{v} is the vector dot product between the force F\mathbf{F} and the particle velocity v\mathbf{v}. Thus the acceleration depends on the particle's velocity and is not in general in the same direction as the force.
