Problem

If one mole of an ideal gas at (P1,V1)(P_1, V_1) is allowed to expand reversibly and isothermally (A to B) its pressure is reduced to one-half of the original pressure (see figure). This is followed by a constant volume cooling till its pressure is reduced to one-fourth of the initial value (B →\to C). Then it is restored to its initial state by a reversible adiabatic compression (C to A). The net work done by the gas is equal to: ![P-V diagram showing a thermodynamic cycle A-B-C-A. The initial state A is at pressure P_1 and volume V_1. The process A to B is isothermal expansion, reducing pressure to P_1/2 and volume to 2V_1. The process B to C is constant volume cooling, reducing pressure to P_1/4. The process C to A is reversible adiabatic compression, restoring the gas to its initial state.](https://storage.googleapis.com/diraq-contents/homework-question-parsing/marker/20260106T182719Z/673f8166aeb24c9ba7e8f597f5fe97d5/2583a26b85126a2fd60062a7e7ec4ed0_img.jpg) (1) RT(ln⁡2−12(γ−1))RT\left(\ln 2 - \frac{1}{2(\gamma - 1)}\right) (2) −RT2(γ−1)-\frac{RT}{2(\gamma - 1)} (3) 0 (4) RTln⁡2RT \ln 2
