Problem

Show that the norm N(L)N(L) of a lattice LL in RΔR_\Delta can be computed in the following way. Choose a basis α,β\alpha, \beta for LL and let Pα,βP_{\alpha,\beta} be the parallelogram with vertices 00, α\alpha, β\beta, and α+β\alpha + \beta. Then N(L)N(L) is the total number of points of RΔR_\Delta in the interior of Pα,βP_{\alpha,\beta} plus the number of points of RΔR_\Delta in the interiors of two adjacent edges of Pα,βP_{\alpha,\beta}, plus an additional 11 for the vertex of Pα,βP_{\alpha,\beta} between these two edges.
