Problem

An ideal of a commutative ring RR is said to be finitely generated if there exist elements a1,…,ana_1, \ldots, a_n in RR such that every element rr in the ideal can be written as a1r1+⋯+anrna_1 r_1 + \cdots + a_n r_n for some r1,…,rnr_1, \ldots, r_n in RR. Prove that RR satisfies the ascending chain condition if and only if every ideal of RR is finitely generated.
