Problem

(a) Determine how the energy levels of the hydrogen atom for the 1s1s and 2p2p states would appear in the absence of any intrinsic spin for the electron, with the only contribution to the fine structure coming from the relativistic correction to the kinetic energy. (b) What happens to these energy levels if the atom is placed in an external magnetic field? (c) What is the resulting spectrum?
