Problem

A large number (nn) of identical beads, each of mass mm and radius rr are strung on a thin smooth rigid horizontal rod of length LL (L≫rL \gg r) and are at rest at random positions. The rod is mounted between two rigid supports (see figure). If one of the beads is now given a speed vv, the average force experienced by each support after a long time is (assume all collisions are elastic): [Main Online April 11, 2015] ![Diagram showing a horizontal rod of length L supported by two vertical walls. Several identical beads are strung along the rod. An arrow indicates the direction of motion (to the right) for one bead. The rod rests on a surface indicated by hatching.](https://storage.googleapis.com/diraq-contents/homework-question-parsing/marker/20260106T182719Z/380fa35849d64297a513f664a052f2ea/30a26f2d17ca95672702bf50fb4f0242_img.jpg) (a) mv22(L−nr)\frac{mv^2}{2(L - nr)} (b) mv2L−2nr\frac{mv^2}{L - 2nr} (c) mv2L−nr\frac{mv^2}{L - nr} (d) zero
