Problem

Let AA be an n×nn \times n matrix over KK, a commutative ring with identity. Suppose AA has the block form A=[A10⋯00A2⋯0⋮⋮⋮00⋯Ak]A = \begin{bmatrix} A_1 & 0 & \cdots & 0 \\ 0 & A_2 & \cdots & 0 \\ \vdots & \vdots & & \vdots \\ 0 & 0 & \cdots & A_k \end{bmatrix} where AiA_i is an ri×rir_i \times r_i matrix. Prove det⁡A=(det⁡A1)(det⁡A2)⋯(det⁡Ak).\det A = (\det A_1)(\det A_2) \cdots (\det A_k).
