Problem

Suppose T∈L(V,W)T \in \mathcal{L}(V, W) and T≠0T \neq 0. Prove that TT is a scalar multiple of an isometry if and only if TT preserves orthogonality. The phrase ``TT preserves orthogonality'' means that ⟨Tu,Tv⟩=0\langle Tu, Tv \rangle = 0 for all u,v∈Vu, v \in V such that ⟨u,v⟩=0\langle u, v \rangle = 0.
