Problem

1. (a) The reaction CO(g)+H2O(g)⇌H2(g)+CO2(g)\text{CO}(\text{g}) + \text{H}_2\text{O}(\text{g}) \rightleftharpoons \text{H}_2(\text{g}) + \text{CO}_2(\text{g}) was studied at 550∘C550^\circ\text{C} . When 4.0 moles of CO\text{CO} and 6.4 moles of H2O\text{H}_2\text{O} were introduced into a 1 dm31 \text{ dm}^3 vessel, the equilibrium mixture was found to contain 3.2 moles of both H2\text{H}_2 and CO2\text{CO}_2 . Calculate the concentrations of CO\text{CO} and H2O\text{H}_2\text{O} at equilibrium and the value of KK . 2. (b) At the same temperature and pressure, a different experiment was found to have 4.0 moles of both CO\text{CO} and H2O\text{H}_2\text{O} , and 3.0 moles of both H2\text{H}_2 and CO2\text{CO}_2 present in the mixture after a period of reaction. Show mathematically that this mixture had not reached equilibrium, and in which direction it will react.
