Problem

We say v∈C2(Uˉ)v \in C^2(\bar{U}) is subharmonic if −Δv≤0in U.-\Delta v \leq 0 \quad \text{in } U. (a) Prove for subharmonic vv that v(x)≤∫B(x,r)v dyfor all B(x,r)⊂U.v(x) \leq \int_{B(x,r)} v\, dy \quad \text{for all } B(x,r) \subset U. (b) Prove that therefore max⁡Uˉv=max⁡∂Uv\max_{\bar{U}} v = \max_{\partial U} v. (c) Let ϕ:R→R\phi : \mathbb{R} \to \mathbb{R} be smooth and convex. Assume uu is harmonic and v:=ϕ(u)v := \phi(u). Prove vv is subharmonic. (d) Prove v:=∣Du∣2v := |Du|^2 is subharmonic, whenever uu is harmonic.
