Problem

If the energy EE of a system behaves like E=α∣x∣nE = \alpha|x|^n, where n=1,2,3…n = 1, 2, 3\ldots and α>0\alpha > 0, show that the average energy is ⟨E⟩=ξkBT\langle E \rangle = \xi k_\mathrm{B}T, where ξ\xi is a numerical constant.
