Problem

Show that for an ideal van der Waals fluid h=−2av+RT(c+vv−b)h = -\frac{2a}{v} + RT\left(c + \frac{v}{v-b}\right) where hh is the molar enthalpy. Assuming such a fluid to be passed through a porous plug and thereby expanded from viv_i to vfv_f (with vf>viv_f > v_i), find the final temperature TfT_f in terms of the initial temperature TiT_i and the given data. Evaluate the temperature change if the gas is CO2\mathrm{CO}_2, the mean temperature is 0∘C0^\circ\mathrm{C}, the mean pressure is 10710^7 Pa, and the change in pressure is 10610^6 Pa. The molar heat capacity cPc_P of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 at the relevant temperature and pressure is 29.5 J/mole-K. Carry calculation only to first order in b/vb/v and a/RTva/\mathrm{RT}v.
