Problem

Let II be an arbitrary bounded interval (you should consider all types of intervals: closed, open, half-open) and a<ba < b, then using only the definition of the integral show that the elementary step function φI\varphi_I is integrable on [a,b][a,b], and find the integral in terms of aa, bb, and the endpoints of II.
