Problem

Just as ∇⋅B=0\nabla \cdot \mathbf{B} = 0 allows us to express B\mathbf{B} as the curl of a vector potential (B=∇×A\mathbf{B} = \nabla \times \mathbf{A}), so ∇⋅A=0\nabla \cdot \mathbf{A} = 0 permits us to write A\mathbf{A} itself as the curl of a "higher" potential: A=∇×W\mathbf{A} = \nabla \times \mathbf{W}. (And this hierarchy can be extended ad infinitum.) (a) Find the general formula for W\mathbf{W} (as an integral over B\mathbf{B}), which holds when B→0\mathbf{B} \to \mathbf{0} at ∞\infty. (b) Determine W\mathbf{W} for the case of a uniform magnetic field B\mathbf{B}. [Hint: see Prob. 5.25.] (c) Find W\mathbf{W} inside and outside an infinite solenoid. [Hint: see Ex. 5.12.]
