MAGNETIC FIELDS IN MATTER — Edward Purcell & David Morin

Physics — E&M · boundary-condition-e-perpendicular

Problem

Consider the polarized sphere from Section 10.9. Using the forms of the internal and external electric fields, show that E⊥E_\perp has a discontinuity of P⊥/ϵ0=Pcos⁡θ/ϵ0P_\perp/\epsilon_0 = P\cos\theta/\epsilon_0 everywhere on the surface of the sphere.
