Problem

Consider the right-angled triangle with vertices A(0,0)A(0,0), B(6,0)B(6,0) and C(0,8)C(0,8). A point P(k,2)P(k,2), where kk is a real parameter, is taken on the line y=2y=2. a. (i) Obtain the exact numerical value of the area of △ABC\triangle ABC. b. (ii) Express, in terms of kk, the areas of △PAB\triangle PAB, △PBC\triangle PBC and △PCA\triangle PCA. c. (iii) Using the results of part (ii), find the set of all real values of kk for which the point PP lies strictly inside △ABC\triangle ABC. d. (iv) Determine the value(s) of kk, if any, for which PP lies on one of the sides of the triangle.
