Problem

Let kk be a positive integer. Let G=(V,E)G = (V, E) be a simple graph. A subset UU of VV will be called kk-path-dominating if for every v∈Vv \in V, there exists a path of length ≤k\leq k from vv to some element of UU. Prove that the number of all kk-path-dominating subsets of VV is odd. [Hint: This is not as substantial a generalization as it may look. The shortest proof is very short.]
