Problem

A definite-momentum wavefunction can be expressed by the formula Ψ(x)=A(cos⁡kx+isin⁡kx)\Psi(x) = A(\cos kx + i\sin kx), where AA and kk are constants. ((a)) How is the constant kk related to the particle's momentum? (Justify your answer.) ((b)) Show that, if a particle has such a wavefunction, you are equally likely to find it at any position xx. ((c)) Explain why the constant AA must be infinitesimal, if this formula is to be valid for all xx. ((d)) Show that this wavefunction satisfies the differential equation dΨ/dx=−ikΨd\Psi/dx = -ik\Psi. ((e)) Often the function cos⁡θ+isin⁡θ\cos\theta + i\sin\theta is written instead as eiθe^{i\theta}. Treating the ii as an ordinary constant, show that the function AeikxAe^{ikx} obeys the same differential equation as in part (d).
