Two microphones A and B are placed along the straight line in which a plane sound wave of frequency 1.2kHz propagates. The speed of sound in air is 330ms−1. It is observed that microphone B records its first maximum 0.25ms after microphone A records its first maximum.
a. (i) Calculate the phase difference between the disturbances arriving at B and A at the instant when A records its first maximum.
b. (ii) Determine the distance between the two microphones.
c. (iii) Find the least additional distance by which microphone B must be moved farther away from A so that the two microphones once again record maxima simultaneously.
