Problem

Prove by induction on dimension the following facts about the homology of a finite-dimensional CW complex XX, using the observation that Xn/Xn−1X^n/X^{n-1} is a wedge sum of nn-spheres: (a) If XX has dimension nn then Hi(X)=0H_i(X) = 0 for i>ni > n and Hn(X)H_n(X) is free. (b) Hn(X)H_n(X) is free with basis in bijective correspondence with the nn-cells if there are no cells of dimension n−1n-1 or n+1n+1. (c) If XX has kk nn-cells, then Hn(X)H_n(X) is generated by at most kk elements.
