Problem

For flow of a uniform stream parallel to a sharp flat plate, transition to a turbulent boundary layer on the plate may occur at Rex=Ux/ν=1E6\text{Re}_x = Ux/\nu = 1\text{E}6, where UU is the approach velocity and xx is distance along the plate. If U=2.5U = 2.5 m/s, determine the distance xx for the following fluids at 20°C and 1 atm: (a) hydrogen, (b) air, (c) gasoline, (d) water, (e) mercury, and (f) glycerin.
