Problem

A point P(x,y)P(x, y) is first rotated anticlockwise about the origin through an angle α\alpha to P1P_{1} and then again anticlockwise through an angle β\beta to P2P_{2}. a. (i) Obtain the coordinates of P2P_{2} in terms of x, y, αx,\,y,\,\alpha and β\beta. Show all necessary steps. b. (ii) Prove that P2P_{2} coincides with the position obtained by a single anticlockwise rotation of PP through the angle (α+β)(\alpha+\beta). c. (iii) If instead the second rotation were clockwise through the same angle α\alpha, what would be the coordinates of the final image of PP? Simplify your answer.
