Linear-fractional functions and convex sets. Let f:Rm→Rn be the linear-fractional function
f(x)=(Ax+b)/(cTx+d),domf={x∣cTx+d>0}.
In this problem we study the inverse image of a convex set C under f, i.e.,
f−1(C)={x∈domf∣f(x)∈C}.
For each of the following sets C⊆Rn, give a simple description of f−1(C).
((a)) The halfspace C={y∣gTy≤h} (with g=0).
((b)) The polyhedron C={y∣Gy⪯h}.
((c)) The ellipsoid {y∣yTP−1y≤1} (where P∈S++n).
((d)) The solution set of a linear matrix inequality, C={y∣y1A1+⋯+ynAn⪯B}, where A1,…,An,B∈Sp.
