Problem

Two resistive wires are connected in series. The first wire has resistance R1=100 ΩR_{1} = 100\,\Omega at 0∘C0^{\circ}\text{C} and temperature coefficient α1=0.005/∘C\alpha_{1} = 0.005/^{\circ}\text{C}. The second wire has resistance R2R_{2} at 0∘C0^{\circ}\text{C} and temperature coefficient α2=−0.002/∘C\alpha_{2} = -0.002/^{\circ}\text{C}. Find the value of R2R_{2} such that the combined resistance of the series combination does not change with temperature.
