Problem

Reactions in which the same element is simultaneously oxidized and reduced are known as disproportionation reactions. Deduce the equation for the reaction when I2(aq)\text{I}_2(\text{aq}) reacts with KOH(aq)\text{KOH}(\text{aq}) to produce KI\text{KI}, KIO3\text{KIO}_3, and H2O\text{H}_2\text{O}, and show that this is a disproportionation reaction.
