Problem

Calculate the fraction of the conduction electrons in tungsten (εF=9.0\varepsilon_F = 9.0 eV) at 3000 K whose kinetic energy ε(=12mu2)\varepsilon\left(= \frac{1}{2}mu^2\right) is greater than W(=13.5W(= 13.5 eV)). Also calculate the fraction of the electrons whose kinetic energy associated with the zz-component of their motion, namely (12muz2)\left(\frac{1}{2}mu_z^2\right), is greater than 13.5 eV.
